Xintiandi is a redeveloped area in downtown Shanghai. Its old shikumen (stone-gate) houses have been refurbished into a trendy entertainment and shopping area. Modern high-end apartments such as the Lakeville compounds around Taipingqiao lake are among the most desired upscale properties in Shanghai. Nonetheless, small and authentic streets like Danshui Road are home to charming old lane houses.
